Abraham Thompson

Sullivan, NH

According to the town history of Sullivan, NH, a ‘negro’ male named Abraham Thompson lived in town in the early 19th century.  He is said to have lived in "The Alexander B. Brown house, where Lester R. Wheeler lives. There as formerly a cabin on or near this spot. " According to Mr. Brown, Thompson lived in the cabin alone.

In 1814, Abraham Thompson was a witness on a deed between two residents of color in Sullivan, NH: Pompey Woodward and another resident. At some point, soon after, he relocated to Surry, NH. The History of the Town of Surry, New Hampshire written by Frank Burnside Kingsbury in 1925 notes Thompson’s presence in the community.

1816 June 5: Voted to allow Abraham Thompson, a negro, $16.00 for maintaining 'a black woman.’

No other information has been discovered to document Thompson’s life.
