Williams, Abbie C.

Abbie C. Williams

Winchester, NH

In 1860, Abbie C. Williams was a 14-year old Black teenager (b.1846) residing in the household of a white woman named Emily Ripley in Winchester, NH.  She was not attending school and she was not listed as a domestic servant in the household.  Williams’ birthplace was also not noted.

At the time of William’s residence in Cheshire County, Emily Ripley was a 59 years old white female, widowed, with two young children, presumably her two grandchildren, Charles L. Ripley (9 years old) and Lillian M. Driggs (6 years old). Also in the household was 17-year old Margaret Dawson, a white Irish domestic servant. Prior to living in Winchester, Ripley had resided in Boston with her daughter and son-in-law, the Driggs family. Abbie Williams may have relocated to Winchester with Emily from Boston.
