As a mixed race couple in the early part of the 20th century, Eva M. (Wheeler) Bolio and her husband Robert Bolio first moved into Cheshire County, New Hampshire in the early 1910s. They lived in the town of Surry for a short time before making their home in Marlow, NH. Eva continued to live in Marlow for the next 12 years until her death in 1927.
Eva Wheeler was born in Lewis Center, New York, in January 1870. While her parents' names are unknown, her mother’s maiden name is recorded as McChesney on Eva’s wedding record and her place of birth as Canada. Eva married in the 1890s to an unidentified man but remarried by the end of the decade. On December 1, 1896, she married Robert Harrison Bolio in Monkton, Vermont. In following census documentation, Eva was listed as Mulatto while her husband Robert and his family were white.
The couple resided in the Bolio family home at the turn of the 20th century, along with Robert’s parents, siblings, and nephews. They moved on to New Hampshire between 1910 and 1915. Eva died in Marlow at the age of 56 in 1927.
