Pomp Russell and Margaret (Cut) Russell
Nelson, NH
Revolutionary War veteran Pomp Russell moved to Nelson, NH, sometime in the mid-to-late 1780s. Russell had served during the summer of 1777 as a private in Capt. John Goss’ Co., Col. Nichols Regiment, and General Stark’s brigade.
Following the war, Pomp Russell married Margret Cut in Amherst, NH, on June 26, 1788. Their wedding was officiated by the same Moses Nichols, a man known to Russell, having served as his Colonel during the war. The couple resided in Nelson for at least a few years. Their son Peter was born in town in 1789 and son Zodak/Zadoc was born there in 1794.
During the early 19th century, the Russell family relocated to Weld, Maine where they lived as farmers. All four members of the family appear in the 1820 census within the same household. Son Zadoc died in 1823 in Weld, ME. Son Peter Russell married and had a family of at least five children by 1830.
Pomp and Margaret Russell died in Maine sometime after 1820. Pomp is buried in the town of Weld in the Masterman military veterans cemetery in section A, lot 6.
